Serving New York City, Long Island, areas of the Lower Hudson Valley, and Greenwich, Conn., Greater New York is the most populous and busiest region in the country for the American Red Cross.Between 5 and 25 times a day in this region, Red Cross teams answer the call to assist their neighbors who have lost everything to local disasters. Following each fire, flood, building collapse, hurricane, major snow storm and other emergency, a selfless team (comprised mostly of volunteers) is there to help those affected cope and recover.Along with local disaster response, the Greater New York Red Cross also collects lifesaving blood, provides assistance to military service members and their families, teaches lifesaving classes like first aid and CPR and supports humanitarian relief overseas.
